18. Actually the Republicans have been working to limit abortion rights for some time now.
Obviously only the Supreme Court can repeal Roe v. Wade. But on the federal level Republicans have been successful in denying federal funds to pay for abortions and in several states they have passed laws to restrict abortions. And on the gay rights issue the Republican majority in the House is defending DOMA since the Obama Administration will not.
So I don't think you can say that voters who decide their votes on social issues have got nothing in return from the Republicans.
I do agree with you that the GOP is just using these social issues to get votes. They have a long track record of doing that. But you said you didn't understand why anyone would vote Republicans and I was just trying to explain why some do however I am not defending them.
