16. Oh, so very true...
People wonder why Clark's being first in his class at West Point isn't such a huge deal; that'll work against him.

All you need to understand why a fair number of people like Junior is that "Forrest Gump" won Best Picture and Reagan was handily elected twice. Just listen to any DJ for a few minutes and you'll hear the obligatory "well, of course, I don't understand that..."

Basically, America has a "love me because I'm unthreatening" fixation and an anti-intellectualism that is laughable when analyzed: those same people are saying that they're better people for not claiming to be better people. No wonder so many hate the French: they've contributed so much to culture that any colonial bumpkin must feel mortified in comparison. The French also don't have this "false commonness" posturing as part of their mindset.

Jimmy Carter actively hid his intelligence and advanced degree.

That's why people should lay off of insulting his intelligence; that just makes the average dunderhead love him even more: he's their champion, the "c" student who made it. Hammer on his lies, greed and pure meanness; those are things most folk won't abide.
