16. He is also...
...a current sitting Senator, and the Kerry campaign will not seat another Senator. Besides, Harkin was not well known outside of Iowa until he endorsed Dean, and the I Have A Scream speech was the most publicized introduction most had of Harkin. It is wishful thinking that he would be of any help at all. Additonally, he is almost as liberal as Kerry. A moderate would be much better on balance.

I don't think it would accomplish healing the rift between Deanies and the Kerry people (and other democrats for that matter). They would be pissed off no matter who won the nomination, no matter who was VP (unless it was Dean, which will never ever happen).

Most of we Clarkistas would have supported vigorously any candidate OTHER than Dean or Edwards or Lieberman. You bring in Harkin, you piss off the Gephardt Union folks, the Clark supporters--and unions are one group you don't want to piss off! :-|

Harkin really hurt himself badly with the 'convenient' and 'opportunistic' endorsement--especially when he dissed Gephardt (who is absolutely the NICEST person who ran).
