so I disliked him (just for influence peddling) even back in about 92/93.

See GM put Arlington Texas and Ypsilanti Michigan into a bidding war of sorts to keep open their local GM plant. The cities were to give the better tax cuts and other deals... and then GM would chose one.

This was a huge employer in Ypsi. don't know about Arlington. So Ypsi did all sorts of backflips to try to keep GM.

In the end - jobs all went to Arlington - not because of a better deal in Arlington (iirc), but because they were similar deals - and it just might be a good thing (favor wise) to do something that benefits the presidents son... who had interest in this baseball team... and in Arlington...
