17. the cards are stacked against the individual here
and I'm afraid it will take longer than my lifetime (I'm 50) to revive the unions or collectivist movement or community-based governments or whatever gambits/alternatives we're able to scrape together to fight these giants. So I imagine I'll wind up staying here and doing whatever small things I can to live as well as I can given my circumstances, and help along the cause when possible. As some have pointed out, people do continue to live and thrive even in the darkest totalitarianism.

However, my guess is that Shrub has bitten off a little more than he can chew. I don't believe we will accept the yoke he's sneaking up on us. I'm pessimistic, but not surrendered. I keep thinking, certainly even these Jesus freaks must know better!

More pertinently, I can't see that it's better anywhere else. It's a global fist that has us, and the fingers are everywhere. I want to visit someother places someday and find out (notably Amsterdam and New Zealand) for sure.
