The PRESIDENT has more important things to do in a time of crisis than calm down a bunch of kids. The teacher can do that. Besides, as has been mentioned before, the kids didn't know what was going on.
Nobody's saying he should have run screaming out of the room. He should have politely announced: "I'm sorry but something very important has come up and I have to leave."
The ten seconds it would take to make such an announcement would have been better than the 7+ minutes he SAT there with his thumb up his ass.
