45. I strongly believe that
Anecdote: Had a conversation with a young married woman who was religious and her husband was from a missionary family. The young woman had a normal life prior to her marriage and had sex with a boyfriend when she was in college.
She later married the young man from the missionary family who was a virgin when he got married to her.
After the marriage he would not let her forget her "sin" of having had sex with another man. This poor girl was so confused, she was complaining to me that there was no way she could fix what she had done wrong - in the eyes of God - and she did not know what to do, but she could not live with her husband's disapproval.

I suggested to her that her husband's objections were likely not faith-based but rather fear-based. He was afraid of the comparison to the other guy. I could tell by her face that she knew that too. I hope that she realized some day that she was actually being abused by this jerk.

I think their obsession with sex is at its core sick - they probably really are lousy at it but their solution is not to learn about it but hide it even more. It is a pathology that has gone national!
