Pat O'Brien is the co-anchor of "Access Hollywood," the daily entertainment newsmagazine show that provides
the most comprehensive coverage of entertainment news and personalities on television.
O'Brien joined the program in 1997, continuing a diverse broadcast journalism career spanning 20 years in
news, sports and entertainment.
Before joining "Access Hollywood," O'Brien was an anchor for CBS Sports, where he worked since joining the
network in 1981. At CBS, he anchored the network's coverage of the world's premiere sporting events: the
Winter Olympics Games, the Super Bowl, the World Series, the NBA Finals, and the NCAA Tournament and
Final Four.
O'Brien also co-hosted the reality-based primetime series "How'd They Do That?" Original episodes of the show
aired for two seasons on CBS (1992-'93, 1993-'94) and two seasons on The Learning Channel (1996-'97,
1997-'98), and classic installments of the program continue to run on The Learning Channel.
In 1996, O'Brien hosted a series of syndicated television specials called "The Road to Olympic Gold," with
gymnastics great Mary Lou Retton. He also returned to the 2000 Olympics as host of CNBC's coverage of the
events in Sydney, Australia, marking the first-ever complete cable coverage of an Olympic Games.
O'Brien is also an accomplished writer. He has penned a regular sports column for the New York Daily News,
monthly columns for Inside Sports and Live! magazines and guest columns for TV Guide.
In 1998, his first book, "Talkin' Sports: A BS-er's Guide," was published by Villard.
Prior to joining CBS in 1981, O'Brien held reporter positions at KNXT-TV (now KCBSTV) in Los Angeles,
and WMAQ-TV in Chicago. He began his career as a production assistant on "The Huntley-Brinkley Report."
O'Brien is a graduate of the University of South Dakota, and he studied international economics at the Paul H.
Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C.
He resides with his wife and their son Sean, in Los Angeles.
