Get your name all over the papers as the guy who could hire all these famous musicians for your kid's party? Get to hobnob with said celebrities? That's better than a barrel of diamonds for that kind of person. Plus, he probably views his daughter as an extension of himself.
Genuine pure misers, who just want the numbers in the bank (like racking up video game scores or something) and nothing else, are pretty rare IME. Usually it's mainly about showing off and bossing people around.
