finally a number that even impacts our media

10 dead
11 injured - just now. 20 US dead in four days.

When the numbers were less numbing, say 1-3, even 4 at a time, the only station in America that even bothered to report it was PBS's News Hour. Only today, for the first time in months, cable news finally woke up to the fact that things are getting worse in Iraq. A day after the president said things were getting better.

So, now we know. Our media ignores military deaths under double digits. The media is myopic, if not legally blind.

Another example. The govt releases questionable seasonal employment data just before the President's speech on the economy today. At the same time, GM announces that it lost 11.4% in sales, Ford announces the closing of 5 factories, in addition to firing 4000 white color workers, and Merck announces 7-10% cuts in employment.
The Tribune announces the culling of journalists from every paper it owns, amounting to 5-8% of all staff. Even Greenspan strongly warns about the growing deficit numbers causing major structural problems.

What does the Media report? Things are going fine, strong in the economy.
