Yeah, they do that a bit, but worse, they grab onto the thing they do know and are like a dog with a bone.

My dad used to go on and on about how weird grammar rules were and how badly they were taught, most often using the example of adverbs modifying verbs and adverbs. Finally, I'd had it and sat him down and really explained how adverbs are used, and he actually thanked me and shut up about it.
