You can't get on a plane with explosives in a bag...well unless you can't rely on check on screening. The probability of a bag well equipped with explosive sufficient to take out everyone was extremely slim in the first place.
Air Marshalls TRAINED TO CONFRONT TERRORISTS (or at the very least in that mental mindset) quickly moved in to take care of this poor slob as if he was a terrorist in action...aka 911 style. There was no other "scenario" they were willing to consider.
The MO of this guy did not fit ANY reasonable 911 terrorist scenario...in other words...he paniced and even went off the plane. No others involved.
At that point he could have been jumped if any of these pieces of chit had any balls.
