The articlw says-
The Hawaiian islands have been part of the United States since the U.S. military overthrew the last monarch, Queen Liliuokalani, in 1959.
Queen Liliuokalani was deposed by the advocates of a Republic for Hawaii(white businessmen) in 1893. Hawaii became a state in 1959.
Hawaii was annexed to the United States through (an illegal) joint resolution of the U. S. Congress in 1898. Recently a copy of a petition was found that was signed by nearly ALL native Hawaiians at the time against the annexation.
Also during the election that was held to determine statehood
anyone that was on the islands was allowed to vote, including all
members of the U.S. military.
They've been screwed over and over.
