26. Giuliani's a punk.
A narcisssistic, dictatorial punk.

As US Attorney, he fucked up more cases than he won cleanly. His office was riddled with leaks and problems. Self-promotion was always put ahead of actually preparing a case, and other prosecutors were constantly complaining that he was doing things to screw up their cases.

As mayor, he set records for the press, public, and even the City Council suing him for basic city information. Everything was a secret and none of your business. The City Council even had to sue him for the budget details.

Before 9/11, he closed off City Hall. After 9/11 it got worse. Even the Council had to get prior authorization to walk to the City Hall steps, which every other mayor used for publilc events. Koch was there on the steps at least once a week giving someone the keys to the city. Lotsa bands played on those steps. Even saw Dolly Parton give a free set there, and Koch was in love. Not Rudy. No fun in the city.

He was surrounded with yes-men and ass-kissers. The only sort of people he could deal with. Never, under any circumstances, disagree with him. His comments on the Great Ferret Controversy were, umm, instructive. And, no music but opera. Italian opera.

I was told by someone fairly well placed in one of the emergency services that one year he "suggested" to the city hospitals that anyone coming into the emergency rooms around New Year's Eve with knife, gunshot, etc. wounds, be kept alive until after midnight, so the murder rate for that year would be kept a little lower.

The streets were cleaner, and he did reorganize the city's emergency services, but one wonders if it was really worth it. At least he didn't get a chance to blow a half-billion on a new Yankee Stadium.

Rudy's a shit. A shit with a great PR machine and a press that was shit scared to cross him.
