Last week's petition -- and subsequent flyer -- was an important demonstration of our commitment to hold the Bush Administration accountable for its actions. In fact, you helped bring together 70,000 Americans to insist that the White House stop withholding information from Senate investigations.

Your work in the past few weeks and throughout this year has continued to hold the White House accountable, by speaking up when our country needs you.

Wrapped in its tight cloak of secrecy, however, the Administration continues to dodge growing questions about its misguided behavior. Now, with news of the president's unilateral -- and likely illegal -- domestic espionage operation, it's never been more important to push for satisfactory
answers.

We either believe in the rule of the law or we don't. No American -- regardless of position or office -- is above the law. As you know, as part of a continuing investigation of a leak of national security information, a federal grand jury recently indicted senior White House official, Scooter Libby.

Legal experts across the political spectrum are now raising hugely serious questions about the legality of the President's unilateral domestic surveillance activities. President Bush was wrong to unilaterally order the National Security Agency to spy on U.S. citizens. It's up to the American people to put things right.

The Administration has a responsibility to be truthful with the American people. You and I both know that our fellow citizens - no matter what their political party - will not tolerate a leader who refuses to be honest with the nation.

President Bush has much to answer for - and it's our responsibility as Americans to continue to ask the questions and insist on adequate answers.
