Bush seeks to steal economy "issue" from Democrats

King George and his Court believe they already have the "war" issue in their pocket, and the only weak point in their campaign to cling to the White House and their crusade to destroy this "socialist" government, is the economy. You will notice that more and more Administration officials will comment on the positive aspects and the progress in the economy in the months ahead. If they can dilute the Democratic attacks, they feel confident that they dispose of the Democrats in the next election.

The question for the Democrats is "Should they spend most of their time defending their positions on the economy or should they attack Bush on what he thinks is his strongest suit, the war in Iraq"? If they surrender the "war" issue, the Democrats will weaken their chances to recapture the White House.

It is doubtful that Iraq, Baghdad in particular, will be stabilized by next November, if we judge the last 6 months as any barometer of progress. However, this is a tricky position for Democrats, politically speaking. Most of the country of Iraq is fairly stabilized and was really in control even before the war. The Northern and Southern sections of Iraq were never loyal to Saddam anyway. It was the central part of Iraq, Baghdad and surrounding cities, that was the power hold of Saddam Hussein. We have made little progress in those areas. It would benefit the Democrats to understand the geography of this war.
