I work in a grocery store and I assure you it has nothing to do with people being too lazy to do their job, which incidentally is a pretty fucking snotty thing to say.
At my store, we ask every single customer who has two or more bags of groceries if they'd like help out to their car. If they're too fucking lazy to push their cart to the collection corral rather than leave it in the middle of the parking lot or in a space so that no one else can use it, then they ought to avail themselves of that service.
But no - there's a whole lot of them who airily dismiss the offer but then leave their cart right in the fucking way. So who's lazy here? The bagger (not "bag boy" - we've got plenty of female baggers, thank you very much) who has bagged all their crap and offered to give them a hand or the customer who has probably cursed themselves while looking for a space and finding them all blocked by abandoned carts?
What are we supposed to do? Post someone out in the parking lot to chase down the carts all day? You think we should not allow carts in the parking lot? How are people supposed to get $400 worth of groceries to their car? Why do you think the corrals are there? Jesus! And people wonder why retail workers are cranky! It's from dealing with the moronic public!
