18. Well, I woke up hung over at 11a
to a phone call from my sister - "where the hell are you?!? You were supposed to be making breakfast a half hour ago!" So I rolled my ass outta bed, smoked a little morning puff of get-up-and-go, rounded up the dogs and headed out. Got there, apologized for being late, in my own way (which is to say I mumbled something incoherent about it not being my fault the rest of the goddamned family decided that Christmas should happen in the fucking morning) and began cooking breffus. Sausage gravy and biscuits. I've gotten good enough at it that people ask me to make it for 'em now. Nevertheless my Mom had to futz with it after I was done, and the last I saw of it before sitting down at the table was my delicious gravy unceremoniously transferred from its cast iron skillet to some microwave-safe dish or other, with cold cream added, and some microwave mystery rays zapped into it to warm it up again. Sigh. It still tasted OK.
