because it can inflate the ego, or be a form of flattery meant to inflate the ego. Or more than likely he was pleased with what you said and was just holding it in check.

Remember ego to us is like a cloth cobweb of emotion that is always clamoring for our attention, thus it gets in the way of true and pure thought which is usually the goal of meditation. Even these words I write you are somewhat distractive in regards to ego.

I should not be giving unsolicted advice on matters of any nature let alone spiritual, yet here I gave it. I feed my ego... blah.
