I realize she's trying to be witty. The key word is "trying."

"i sometimes begin to wonder about a guy who never watches sports"

and

"and if you know the difference between james joyce and william james, great. add extra bonus points if you like tommy james. and etta james."

...I've known people with that kind of humor, the old Groucho Marx style of "you can leave in a huff, and if that's not soon enough, you can leave in a minute and a huff" crap.

Worked for Groucho. Doesn't work for Laura.
