And that was a LONG time ago. This year I had to face the consequences of my ex-wife's lifelong alchoholism, try deal with the resultant personality disorders-- ever tried giving someone their dignity while simultaneously calling the cops to prevent them from making good on threats to kill themselves or burn down your house?--, and divorce (it's official on Dec 31). My job-- which is demanding in the best of times-- was especially tough and I've done a crappy job since my personal life melted down. My grad students are crashing and burning. I'm bankrupt, although that was actually part of the divorce and while the intermediate term financial consequences will likely suck, the immediate result is that I have more money-- a good thing since I have to buy new furniture, a new car, and etc. My favorite cat died after a long illness. One of my human friends is in a coma with a profound brain injury after being hit by a car.

On the up side, I found the Alanon recovery program and I feel more hopeful about the future than I have in a long time. I'm going to spend some time taking care of me, and getting my life back on track. I'm REALLY looking forward to that!
