128. The justification that I heard from him
was that the lyrics or titles were being printed (particularly in electronic resources, which reward brevity) with the credits shortened to just Lennon. The McCartney was dropped off. In the same interview, he said that he only wanted to change the credit for specific songs which John had no input on and which Paul was really proud of, particularly Yesterday.

So it wasn't so much (he said) that he wanted to exclude John from his writing credit as that he didn't want his name to be excluded. When I first heard the interview I thought it a rather silly explanation, but in the time since I have actually seen (can't recall where, dammit) various beatles songs being credited just Lennon. I was, of course, shocked and appalled.
