The Cubs haven't won a world series since 1908 and the White Sox haven't won one since 1917. The Sox are still paying the price for the fix in the World Series 1919, the famous 'Black Sox' scandal involving Shoeless Joe Jackson etc.
Not this again.
Back then, players on lots of teams were throwing games. The "Black Sox" investigation initially began as an investigation into Cub players who were throwing games.
Also, there is a book out on the 1918 World Series that indicates that sportswriters at the time suspected that this series was also thrown - by the Cubs. I believe Bill Veeck's Hustler's Handbook also mentions a "World Series fixer" on the Cubs.
The players were horribly abused and badly paid back then.
