We heard SO much of this in Baltimore, if only the author had asked for material, he could have written a thesis.
http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=usatoday-mussinadevelopingdubiou&prov=usatoday&type=lgnsHe stood there in his catatonic state, the last Yankee standing in the losing Fenway Park clubhouse, assigning blame to teammates no longer there...Once again, Mussina was proving that the A in his ALCS doesn't stand for accountability... This was worse than Mussina's postgame act last week, when he talked of a small strike zone, lousy luck, and seven days of rest, relaxation and rust... Is there some unwritten ordinance preventing Mussina from shutting down the Red Sox the way Wakefield shut down the Yanks, knuckleballing them into oblivion. Mussina said his stuff was "about as good as I've got." He's got to find some way, any way, to win these games. Whatever it is, they apparently don't teach it at Stanford...With the bases loaded and one out, Mussina was charged to get a pinch hitter, Jason Varitek, who had gone 2-for-36 against him with 17 strikeouts...Joe Torre saw the Sunday rainout as cause to bump David Wells for Mussina. Wells can pitch on a rest of two days or two months; Mussina wants to take his ball and go home every time he doesn't get to work on Day No. 5... Mussina took him up on it, then complained at his first news conference that too many flashbulbs were exploding in his eyes... Only Mussina couldn't win a World Series game in two cracks at the Diamondbacks. He broke down against the Angels in last year's Division Series. He couldn't beat Johan Santana and friends in Game 1 of this year's Minnesota series. He couldn't beat Wakefield in Game 1 at the Stadium...So Mussina finished Monday night with a 2-4 playoff record as a Yankee and a no-decision in that Anaheim Game 3 that was as much a defeat as any no-decision has ever been. At $88.5 million, that's not what George Steinbrenner bargained for. These failures beg questions about the big-name, big-bucks pitcher who's never been a 20-game winner...
