10. She came and asked me about it. I felt bad for her -
this little girl is one of her best friends and they have so much fun together.

I told her that our belief does not tell us that God hates either Santa or Halloween. I also told her that if her friend does not embrace Santa or Halloween that is up to her and her family, but that my own daughter should not worry that God will be "mad" at her for loving Santa and participating in Halloween. Santa and Halloween are part of our traditions.

It's hard to explain to a first grader that our beliefs and traditions may not always coincide with others, but I did caution her to be sensitive about what others believe. I only wish that all of her friends would do the same.
