24. Is there a right way? Look at anyone applying it--
and they're making odd faces. Can one apply it with one's mouth closed? I contend, one cannot. One must make the "wide-eyed fish face". Eyes are rolled. Eyebrows are lifted so that one looks rather surprised. The effect is always minimal, no matter what the ads say. Except for getting black flakes on my glasses.

Every year, I invest in a tube of mascara. I think to myself--"I have bought a better brand, this is the one the folks at 'Glamour' rave about, I shall look lovely and made up." I wear it five times, on occasions where being "lovely and made up" are called for. I toss the tube having been assured that after six months, mascara is a biohazard. Usually, I can just feather enough eyeliner into my lashes to make them visible and don't have to worry aout applying a product I have to remove my specs and become the next best thing to blind to apply--when sight might just be a valuable tool, just then.

I saw an ad for clear mascara once and came up with a cheap trick that defines the lashes a little--I get a smear of vaseline on my pinkie, and then dab my lashes with an upward stroke. They seem a little darker and more "open".

I shall *never* own a lash curler.

(Wow--I took that post awfully seriously for one about cosmetics. I feel terribly "girly" now."
