As Stephen Thomas Erlewine said at All Music Guide, her new album is not an easy listen, but why does it have to be? There are a couple songs that don't seem to fit her, but I find it to be a neat sonic adventure. I have liked STE before, but lately he has not been so good IMO. 4 stars for LeAnn Rimes's Family, which to me has a warmed-over blues sound and too much of that adult contemporary found in new country music. Meanwhile, Springsteen's Magic gets 3 stars, and Deborah 2.5. He obviously over-analyzed Magic, and that can be STE's flaw as a reviewer.
