5. Wow (with fixed link)

Generation X won't do things because they have a deep sense of mission, or loyalty to an organization. They have nothing but disdain for corporate politics and bureaucracy and don't trust any institution. They grew up watching their parents turn into workaholics, only to be downsized and restructured out of their chosen careers. They believe work is a thing you do to have a life (work doesn't define their life).

I'm an X'er and I do things out of loyalty and sense of mission. What went wrong with me?

I do dislike bureaucracy, as any task-oriented job the idea of "red tape" is asinine. Just let me do the job, give me room to grow, and I will be loyal. Boy, I must be a really mentally sick lonely guy...

And everybody has to work to live. But what's wrong with living to work? Positive energy, and therefore quality results, comes from loyalty and dedication. Loyalty and dedication come from an innate desire pertaining to one's personal strengths.

Xers will respond to Boomer managers if they put meaning into the buzzwords they use so often-empowerment, teamwork, communication. Create an environment where they are challenged by and enjoy their work, where they're measured on performance rather than on which clothes they wear, where they are informed, included and recognized. Gee, maybe Xers aren't so different from anyone else!

Agreed. One reason why I despise commercials because they are filled with nothing more than buzzwords, combined with unrealistic images (and I don't mean just models or mannequin-appearing types.)

Mostly agreed. I'll wear what I want, but I prefer a mix of astute, intellectual, mod tastes. I will always look anachronistic when not out of place. But I am no longer a slob, and the days I was a slob were the days my job involved the most dirtiest of work. Literally; why ruin a good jacket with dust and muck?
