15. DirectTV actually tried to buy Dish.

Back when DirectTV was still owned by General Motors. The two companies agreed in principle, but the government blocked it (FCC or FTC, I forget which).

Shortly after that, Murdoch bought DirectTV. Rumor has it he was prepared to buy General Motors in total, just keep DirectTV, and sell off the rest of the company!
