LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Maria Shriver has no intention of giving up her day job as a working journalist if husband Arnold Schwarzenegger (news) becomes governor of California in next week's recall election.

Shriver said on Tuesday that she will go back to work as a TV journalist for NBC come victory or defeat.

"I intend to go back to my job," Shriver said while visiting a Los Angeles youth center. "I've been working for 26 years; journalism is a passion of mine.

Shriver took a leave from NBC News while Schwarzenegger campaigned in the Oct. 7 election, which could jettison Democratic Gov. Gray Davis (news - web sites) from office and replace him with one of 135 candidates.

She said her understanding with NBC and Neal Shapiro, president of the network's news division, was that she would return to her job after the election.
