The largest single correctable problem with scientific discussions today is (IMO) that where once our peer review system was filtered through a qualified press corp that has all but disappeared. I blame corporatism (YMMV) but whatever the cause, the obvious route to the public is through forums like this. But without widespread access to the primary research our discussions (which are still going to have opportunity for deceit and bad information) are doomed to be little more than tribal e-wrangling.
