Kasich Signs Bill Allowing Gas Drilling In State Parks Into Law - No Ceremony, Though . . . Huh.

Columbus -- Gov. John Kasich quietly signed into law legislation that will allow expanded drilling for oil and gas in state parks. The governor signed House Bill 133 in a private ceremony in Columbus June 30. The move came over the objections of environmental groups and capped a debate that had stretched over multiple legislative sessions.

The bill will officially take effect in about three months.

HB 133 will create a state oil and gas leasing commission to oversee the leasing of state-owned land for the exploration and production of oil and natural gas.

The commission will consider the environmental, geologic, tourism and other impacts before finalizing leases. Proceeds from leases, signing fees, rentals and royalty payments will be used to purchase land or make improvements to parks and other state property.

Ed. - and then we can drill there, too!
