It looks like the thing is made out of a lot of aluminum. Not a problem with a .22, but would probably beat itself into submission if fired with a .45 upper.
As for the wanting to keep it original, I wouldn't be so sure about maintaining your position on that one ;). Since this is your first pistol and you haven't had it long, I would suspect that you don't quite have the bug yet, but a lot of times people decide to modify their weapons, especially their handguns, to make them more "mine." Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't; either way, enjoy your new purchase and safe shooting!
