Bush's dead-ender 30% that still actually support him seem to be mostly the TaliBorn-Agains who think Jesus sent Bush to save America. McCain didn't do at all well with this crowd in 2000, but no Republican nominee can afford to alienate these loons and still expect to win the next election. In fact, he can't win the nomination without them -- they are much more likely to support, in knee-jerk fashion, somebody like Frist or Allen. So I think McCain is kissing Bush's ass in order to keep that bunch from turning on him. They still love Bush, so McCain has to love Bush.
