11. Push continues for displaced voters
Black lawmakers continued Wednesday to push bills to expand opportunities for hurricane-displaced voters to participate in upcoming elections.

They met with limited success despite support from a national civil-rights leader, the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

A Senate panel approved a bill to require absentee voting ballots to be sent to all evacuee voters, even if they don’t ask for one.

The same panel nixed the idea of setting up satellite voting centers outside of Louisiana. The activity comes with major municipal elections looming in New Orleans later this month and warnings from Sen. Cleo Fields, D-Baton Rouge, and other proponents that lack of voter access could lead to contested election results and lawsuits....
