It is traditional, at times like this, for brother and sister firefighters to gather at the site of the memorial to pay their respects. The piper pipes that saddest of songs, Danny Boy.  Righteous tears are shed. Salutes are rendered and hugs of comfort given. Any person elected to pubic office who has connection to the fallen is welcome and their presence appropriate. Mayor Riley and Governor Easley come to mind. The names Michael Chertoff, Mike Huckabee and Rudy Ghoulliani do NOT come to mind. Among others. Political bloodsucking is all their presence represents. |
