For years, before he ran for President - when there were foreign policy/national security issues, Kerry was often on tv - often with McCain. (Who may have learned not to appear with Kerry after the last appearance.)

He was very clear in his reason - he really has been working very hard on both the Iraq and other foreign policy problems and the environment, where people like Boxer always praise his suggestions and knowledge. On Iraq, I would bet that had he stayed in the race, you would not have all the Democrats behind what is really Kerry/Feingold.
