14. My favorite time I met Russ
I've met him several times. He did stop by the Obama table last April on his way to the Capitol building for some event and chatted. He's the kind of guy that looks you straight in the eye and has a great wit and sense of humor.

The best time, and I think the first time I met him was in 2004 on Election Eve in Madison at the very busy, hectic Kerry/Edwards headquarters. I was working on some of the database stuff with a fellow geek on some laptops in a crowded room of people phone-banking when someone taps my shoulder. I turn around and it's Russ! I stood up and shook his hand and he firmly shook mine (good handshakes are cool). He then talked to the other person I was with to tell us he really wanted to thank us for being there and burning the midnight oil for the campaign. He walked over to other groups of people and did the same thing. It was honest appreciation for what we were doing. He then got the room's attention for a minute and told everyone he really was glad they were there.

A minute later, Sharon Stone dropped by and gave a really wonderful short speech about how important it was to do what we were doing.

I then saw Russ talking on the phone doing phone banking with the rest of us. He was one of the last people to leave that night.

Russ does do a lot of meetings (listening sessions) with people in Wisconsin, so if your brother ever wants to participate, he should go here and see the schedule:
