Edwards vows to be confrontational as president

DES MOINES -- John Edwards isn't looking to be an angry candidate, but Tuesday night the Democratic presidential candidate said he will be confrontational if elected president.

An audience member in the crowd of more than 1,500 asked the 2004 vice presidential nominee about his past as an attorney and his confrontational style on the campaign trail.

"Hell yeah I am confrontational," Edwards said. "I am proud of that. We need a fighter in the White House."

Following the event, which featured musicians Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne opening for Edwards, Edwards was asked by the media if he was coming across as the angry candidate instead of the roll-up-the sleeves get-it-done image he displayed along the campaign trail in 2003 in Iowa.
