As for Wright, I think it's true that he's a wacko, although of course he's right about many many things; I think it's regrettable that Obama never pulled together a cohesive narrative - one day he's the crazy uncle and doesn't get invited to the kickoff; the next day he's stuck in the past and Obama never heard his crazier views; the third day he's done with him (and Wright had already said all of the crazy things before. the only thing he hadn't said was that Obama was just being a politician).

I think it's fair to doubt his explanations, nobody's making up anything, so I think it's totally unlike the Kantor story. Of course you think it's not a legitimate topic, but many disagree. As to the Wright story's importance to me, it wouldn't be much except that Obama has a thin record and is running mostly on being something new and pure. The Wright issue, which I knew about long ago, but much more importantly, his disingenuous handling of it, was among one of the things that proved to me that Obama was just another centrist politician, no better than Clinton in stances and leadership, but much worse in other areas.
