It's called 'politics.' Feelings get hurt. Get over it. [View All]

It's the way the system works, and the more that's at stake, the hotter the tempers get and the hotter the language gets. People say things. But, when it's over, it should be over.

I'm really astounded at the people here who say that if their candidate loses, they will never vote for the other person under any circumstances because someone or several people said mean things to them. Those people really need to get a grip.

If Hillary can go to see Richard Mellon Scaife -- who tried to ruin her husband, her, her daughter, and her husband's presidency, then Obama supporters and Clinton supporters can shake hands and move on to the big prize.

I've made allowances for people for whom this is the first time they've been involved, or emotionally involved, in a campaign, especially one with such a battle, but the rest of you should know better.

The only goal at this point is to drive as many Republicans out of office as is humanly possible. If I have to vote for a goddamn porcupine to do that, I will. I want to hurt Republicans -- bad. (Don't start with the crap that Hillary/Obama is no different than a Republican, because I ain't buying it -- no matter how well you polish that turd.)

So, your candidate lost, might lose, whatever -- you have a good cry, pick up the pieces, and move on.

I was a freshman in college when JFK was elected. I was elated. I loved him. When I turned 21 (the voting age then), as soon as I sobered up (the next day) I went down and registered as a Democrat, so I could work for his re-election. The day I registered was Nov. 21, 1963. How the hell do you think I felt the next day?

I came into this primary kind of neutral, but leaning toward Hillary. I don't think she ran a good campaign, for a lot of reasons that I've explained elsewhere on DU, and she did some things that kind of turned me off. However, she is several orders of magnitude better than the best person the GOP can put up and just so far ahead of McCain that you can't even compare it. The same with Obama.

I see in Obama a lot of the things I saw in JFK. He has the ability to inspire people and get them engaged. He represents a change from the old way of doing things. That's not a bad thing -- although some people tried to make it bad -- because after the last few years we need someone or something to inspire us and get us engaged again. We need change.

So, people need to develop a thicker skin and understand that the trash talking during the primary was no more than that. (At the risk of sounding sexist, I think guys understand this better than women, because trash talking is a big part of male culture. Men are usually able to get beyond it. They can say all sorts of insulting things during a ball game and then go out for a beer together later. Women tend to internalize it more. I could be wrong. I'm sure I'll hear about it if I am.)

Holding your breath until you turn blue and pass out is only going to hurt you -- and in this case, the country. Democrats and liberals are responsible for nearly every good thing that has happened to this country in the last hundred years. Republicans and conservatives are responsible for almost every bad thing that has happened. Take your pick.
