24. A candidate has to act like a winner.
This claim of hers is vague enough to be something less than an out-and-out lie, but it is an intentional attempt to mislead us. This is the sort of thing a candidate should repeat until she makes it true, if at all possible.

So please don't judge her too harshly (and I intend no sarcasm or condescension here). She is a cornered animal, and this is a relatively benign defense mechanism. She may still have hope for some miraculously huge reversal of public opinion, and if she is to remain in the race at all, this is the way to do it.

You proclaim yourself a winner until you either win or have to drop out, and never acknowledge weakness. It's difficult to wish yourself victory, but it's easy to prophesy your own loss, even inadvertently.
