I don't like Hillary at all -- But I'm fine with her as the VP candidate [View All]

I've been among the "Hillary haters" here for a long tiome. (Long before the primary even.)

The thought of her being the Democratic presidential nominee -- and possibly the president -- has long made my skin crawl.

She's certainly not my ideal choice for a vice president. Not by a longshot.

But if it helps to put a Democrat in the White House and bring the party back into some semblance of unity, I'm fine with her as the VP candidate.

She does campaign hard, and if she keeps up in her working-class persona of the moment, she could add some needed bite to Obama's campaign. That could also provide a lightning rod to attack the more scurrilous aspects of the GOP machine, leaving Obama freer to take the high road. And if she attracts voters who otherwise might sit it out or defect to McCain, that would be a good thing.

And if elected, Obama would still be the Big Dog. The role and power of the VP is largely determined by the president. He could give her some jobs to do that capitalize on her experience and strengths. He might have to keep her on a short leash, but that would be a test of his leadership. (Of course there's the former Big Dawg, Bill, but he could either be free to do his thing and if he misbehaves, his White House pass could be rescinded.)
