34. This new book may explain what is going on.
Sway The Irresistible Pull Of Irrational Behavior. Ori Brafman and Rom Brafman.

One of the premises of this book is that the pain of loss effects us deeply and causes us to act irrationally and against
our own long-term interests. The authors call it "loss aversion." They also cite "commitment" to explain irrational behavior
we will keep fighting because we have devoted so many resources to our endeavor. The very act of what we have invested
keeps us committed to a continuing investment.
