Under Washington's 3-strikes law, Vance Bartley has been serving a sentence of life without possibility of parole for crimes involving low violence and small amounts of money.

Recently, he discovered a way to correct an error in one of his convictions. He will be released within a few months. But over 100 people continue to serve life sentences triggered by Robbery 2 convictions, a crime that Washington's Sentencing Guidelines Commission has recommended removing from the 3 strikes list because it involves "little risk of physical injury". For 10 years, Senator Kline has sponsored a bill that would bring our state into compliance with this recommendation. It fails every time for political reasons.
