9. I'm really happy that you're doing this. I started lettering around

just after 9/11, because I was scared. Not of bin Laden but of Fearless Misleader. Read the news every morning, monitored the MSM and eventually started writing BACK to it.

If you do it enough, you get to the stage where you can predict what story they will go with, what the cut off time is for your submission. Short is better. NYTs ran a one sentence letter I wrote in December: "Count our votes."
