Take a look at this:

And then take a look at this:

You can interview some police and maybe a gay victim of a hate crime near you. See how they were treated. Police records are a matter of public record, right? Maybe you can do some digging. See what you can find. So a bit of reporting and interviewing of police to see if they are doing their job.

If the police are doing good, then it'll be good PR for their department. If they are doing bad... then well... finding out and reporting on it might make a difference.
