3. I started out believing that the WH's friends were us
But friends don't continually insult and misuse people they call friends. Those are "users" and not friends of mine. I shudder to think what would happen if the repugs got hold of Congress or if McKook and Miss Iquitarod got hold of the WH. Good lord, that would have been all-out war on the GLBT community.

But this veiled contempt is wearing and it's wearing me down. My joy on last election day has somewhat dimmed. After McClurkin, Warren, numerous defenses of DOMA, and a stubborn refusal to move on DADT when there have been many promises to go forward with repeal, well, I have to do an evaluation. That evaluation comes down to "don't insult my intelligence". Don't glad-hand the cocktail-and-lobster crowd then demonstrate contempt. Don't take my money and time, don't accept my vote with promises to act, then do everything in your power to stand in the way of my becoming an equal citizen.

I'm not asking for "right now". I realize there have been heavy lifts. But there is a damn-long difference between saying (and demonstrating) "I can do this, but not this minute", then setting a date and on the other hand (QED) moving with active contempt at every possible opportunity. Every. Possible. Opportunity.

I will not call my president a liar. But I will go as far as to say that his words and his actions on DOMA, ENDA, and DADT demonstrate a certain estrangement.
