my dad fell on the ice and broke his hip yesterday getting the newspaper. Unfortunately it was very early in the morning so no nosy neighbors and he had to drag himself all the way back down the driveway, into the garage and up the stairs into the kitchen, where he got stuck in the door.
He finally got my mom's attention (it's a big house and she was deep in the other side) and got him to the hospital. Turns out it was a hairline fracture so no surgery, just a walker for a few weeks, and he was pretty chipper. I had to ask when I talked to him yesterday, "So did you actually bring the newspaper in after all that?"
