I've been out to my family for well over a decade and a half now. At work, well, I work on a deepwater drilling rig in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. When I got here, I didn't hide it, but didn't announce it either. I'd been here about 6 months before a conversation in the break room came around to asking me if i was married or had a girlfriend. I simply responded.. I'm gay, I've been in a relationship with my boyfriend for 8 years. There was stunned silence.. a few questions, some doubt and disbelief. I still get questioned about it every now and then, but overall it just isn't even discussed. I think I've convinced a pretty large group of rednecks.. for the most part.. that "gay" doesn't all fit into one nice neat stereotypical package.

I picked 2 and 3 because I don't really associate with my neighbors, and never really have other than friendly hello's when out in the yard, but i'm sure they probably know.. don't hide it, but never had occaison to actually "out" myself with em.
